The Results Are In!!!!!!!
Race recap:
2nd Pierre Leblanc
Race recap:
Only 2 men were brave enough to face the elements. Both Pierre and I wish to thank Maren for not
racing today so as to not give our asses and egos a thorough shit kicking. As hard as I tried I could never shake Pierre
so I had to rely on Plan B which was to seize
the opportunity at the end of the last lap to fall behind his wheel turning on
to Cemetery Road and suck it until 300 meters to go. Hey, a win is a win. Thank you to also Maren for the delicious
muffin waiting for us back at Chateau Chisholm.

That's it folks. No scheduled events for the weekend. Get out and ride and make sure to pump your tires right before you leave for that ride. Tires deflate over night and after a week of sitting around. Also, if you have to borrow a tube or CO2 cartridge to get out of bind, cycling etiquette dictates that you pay back that person as soon as possible.
Have a great week.

Season kickoff and Club News.
Hello everyone and to paraphrase 'Game of Thrones'. finally Summer is Coming. It is with this good news that I would like to report some information in regards to the direction of the Club for this season.
First of all , we are no longer affiliated with the Ontario Cycling Association. The executive decided to seek other insurance coverage because of the rapid and substantial rise in rates from the OCA. Our coverage is now broader and considerably cheaper, resulting in a reduction of membership fees. This cost saving has been passed on to the members by way of a $20.00 reduction to our previous membership charge.
Secondly, it is with great pleasure to announce that there will be a greater emphasis on the group ride and touring side to the Club. Penny Tallman and Gord Lefebvre have done a fantastic job in organizing a proposed 5 date touring schedule running from May to September taking riders from distances of 80 to 120 plus kms. All levels of ability will be welcome. As well, we will continue to hold weekly rides from the parking lots adjacent to Total Cyclery. All riders welcome here also.
Finally we are pleased to announced starting this season that the membership fees will be waived by the Club for all members serving on the executive. It is hoped that this will inspire new people to not just participate in the events but also give a hand in the organizing and healthy functioning of the Cornwall Cycle Club.
The new event calendar will be out this week but the racing season starts this Saturday.
Time to get those legs a moving. The season kicks off with:
The Small Ring Road Race, Saturday April 6th
Location: St. Andrews Parking Lot.
Time: 12:00 noon
Duration: 42 kms. Two upper loops. Here is link to the Upper Loops: Upper Loop at Harrison's Corners
Rules: #1. Never enter the big ring (Compact crank riders - open to negotiation)
#2. Be a member of the Cornwall Cycle Club.
See you on Saturday. Bring the pain.

Giving out the hardware
Last night the Cornwall Cycle Club gave out it's 2012 Cycling Trophies at the Jet Set Pub. A crowd of over 20 members enjoyed an evening of good stories, new friendships, cold drinks and fried foods. President Marc Dubuc did a magnificent job as Master of Ceremonies. Here is a list of the deserving recipients:
Trophy winners 2012
Tour de Keith - none
- 100km TT in Moira - I was the only one that showed up for the competition
along with Cam that wanted to ride. It
was a gorgeous day so we decided to do as a ride together -
Sportif Cyclist of
the Year - Marc Dubuc - 2012 - this trophy is awarded to the member that
has accumulated the most points throughout the season from races and TT -
Tourist of the Year -
Leigh Carson- 2012 - Leigh has been through a lot health-wise this year and
through it all he has remained an excellent cyclist - a true inspiration to us
all
Member of the Year -
Maren Butkovich - 2012 - we decided
to award this one to Maren for being Maren!
She is spirited, fun and participates at most events, even the CAMEBA
races. She is a tough little cyclist
that is not scared of working hard. In a
way she is part of the glue that holds the club together.
Most Improved Cyclist
- Darrell Blakely - 2012 - I first
met Darrell on a bike ride around Lunenburg.
He was riding by himself and we chatted at a stop sign. I encouraged him to start riding with us and
he reluctantly agreed. He's improved
exponentially over the next few months to the point of giving us veterans a run
for every event be it road race or Time Trial. Great to have you with us Darrell.
Female Cyclist of the
Year - Penny Tallman - 2012 - Penny as well started out as a beginner this
season but she quickly improved to the point of staying up with the boys and
even being able to pull us around at times.
She is a determined cyclist and fitness freak! Great job Penny!
Most Promising Young Cyclist - none
Pictures from the night are to follow.
