Sunday, July 25th  Club Ride. 8:00 am Start. Moira, NY

This weeks weekend ride will be a 100km loop departing from Moira New York. Because of the travel time involved and issues crossing the border, members are asked to gather in the HARVEYS parking lot on Brookdale for a 7:30am departure. The riding loop will consist of 100 km for rolling terrain, wide paved shoulders and some fast descents. Don't forget passports and arrange transportation before the ride so that there are ample cars to take everyone over!

Tip of the Week:  If someone is kind enough to lend a tube or materials to get you up and rolling, make sure that in the near future you go out and replace the materials so kindly given to you.  Bad Karma to those who don't.
Have great week.

Cycling News and an interesting race

This originally appeared in TriRudy
In recognition of the one-year anniversary of the ordeal underwent by the Kanata Five, there has been  a web-petition created to support Bill 74.

Ontario Bill 74 passed its first reading in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on May 18th, 2010. The private member's bill, introduced by Parkdale-High Park MPP Cheri DiNovo, is intended to make Ontario's roadways safer for cyclists by requiring motorists to give cyclists a wide berth when passing (between 3 and 5 feet depending on the motorist's speed). Fines for motorists breaking this law would range from $310 to $750.

Sixteen US States have 3-foot laws in effect, including Arkansas, Florida, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Illinois, Tennessee, Minnesota, Utah, Wisconsin, Arizona, Oklahoma, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland and Maine. When passed, Bill 74 will make Ontario the first Canadian province with this type of law.

You can sign the petition here: http://bill74.epetitions.net/

Please spread the word.
Information on the bill itself can be found here: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do?locale=en&Intranet=&BillID=2364

If you support Bill 74, please sign the petition. If you are passionate about this cause, please write your local Ontario MPP to show your support. You can find your Ontario MPP here: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/members/members_current.do?locale=en

Also Christian Belair has a link to a very interesting race that he is doing in September.
The race is on Saturday and Sunday September 25 and 26. There are several distances/disciplines available, but he is doing the 100K TT + 40K MTB + 10K xCountry run.

Raising funds for a good cause!

We would like to celebrate some club members who have participated in, is currently doing or will do in the future various noble events to raise funds for cancer treatment.

First we would like to say a big way to go to Dale Witty who participated in an epic 400 km ride through the Rockies in June to raise over $4600.00.

Second we wish the safest of rides to Keith Smith in the middle of his solo ride across Canada to support Cancer treatment awareness.  Here is a link to his interesting blog: http://keithsmith.snkcr.com/

Finally to fellow member Martin Lacelle who will be riding later this year coast to coast in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.  Congrats everyone for your commitment.
